Born in Ivory Coast, Yao Kan arrives in France in 1986, already influenced by Jamaican music.
As a student, he spends his time doing music, inspired by the Vocals of Kingston (« THE WAILERS », « THE GLADIATORS », « ISRAEL VIBRATION », « CULTURE »). In 1993, he joins in France the band "The NAPHTALIANS" as singer, then "NATUREL PLACEBO" in 1995.
Since 1998, Yao Kan is a solo artist in the pure reggae tradition.
In France, he plays along with GREGORY ISAACS, ISRAËL VIBRATION, TOOTS and the MAYTALS.
In 2003, he releases his first album distributed by SANKOFA BLACKSTAR : "The Lamb`s Bread : La lutte continue", followed by a large promotion.
Yao Kan`s music is rigorous, and has no complacency towards any form of oppression. His lyrics are strong and look for more justice in this world.
In his second album, New Days, Yao Kan pledges for global awareness towards problems facing mankind today.
